Samantha Wilson had a hard childhood. A father who’d walked out and a drunk for a mother, the local construction crew and members of the community practically raised her. She left town after graduating at seventeen with a broken heart and a promise to not come back. A bag of tools, and an old pickup were all she took with her. Now she was back for her mother’s funeral. Her plans to leave after the funeral were interrupted by the state of her mother’s house. It needed to be repaired before she could sell it.
Jackson Lawrence let Sam drive out of his life once, and he was determined she wouldn’t leave him again. He was willing to do whatever it took to keep her by his side, preferably in their hometown. This time it wasn’t his pride keeping him in town, it was his five-year-old daughter. He didn’t want to uproot Rebecca again. Willing to take things at a slow pace to convince her that she needed him in her life, his plans changed when her ex-fiancé showed up on the scene.
The crew that raised her is now working for her, and Sam must decide if she’s going to stick it out this time. Can she heal from her past and convince Jackson that she’s home to stay? By the time Samantha decides to stay, Jackson believes he’s already lost her. Together they must find a way to overcome their personal fears and past mistakes to build the kind of family that Rebecca deserves and Samantha craves.
